Chapter 1-B

There's nothing quite like the sound of rain on a tin roof.

Even with the screaming agony in your side, you feel relaxed and as if you actually got a decent night's sleep as you crack open your eyes.

Maybe a little less than a decent night's sleep - it's dark outside.

You can see golden eyes glittering by the doorway, staring out at the dark. You can't really imagine what is out there, but considering what she did before... It feels good to have something acting like a guard dog for you.

Approach Maly Kiel...

The girl pats your shoulder, but keeps her eyes trained on the outside world. Dobry. Awake. Not dead.

You turn your gaze to where she's staring but can't see anything.

Anything out there?

Mmm. She nods her head and shrugs, Rats.

She doesn't seem that concerned, but then... She did just manage to either drive off or kill a cursed beast. She doesn't seem to be a normal inhuman at all.

Thank her for saving you?

The girl seems amused at the statement, her mouth curling into a smile as she continues to stare into the dark.

Bez Wyboru. She whispers, as if it were the simplest of things. Yet, most survivors would see another being attacked and either steal whatever they had and move on, or use their dying body as a lure to escape the things that go bump in the night.

Bez Wyboru...

Literally "without choice". It's a common phrase used to say that one is only acting out of obligation. It is used somewhat similarly to "You're welcome", in that the phrase has lost most of its meaning over time.

It seems this particular girl isn't just strong, she's strange. Why did she even help you?

Ask her how she found you?

Maly Kiel screwed up her face with concentration, searching for the words. She struggled with it for a long time and then spoke quietly. Wazne jest blisko. Important is close.

You don't quite get her meaning, but it is clearly something heavy for her. Something to keep in mind for the future. Speaking of...

Ask about the morning?

You had come to this god-forsaken place to die. It wasn't something you were very willing to admit with the girl going to a huge amount of effort just to keep you alive.

It seemed cruel to tell her your intentions in this wasteland.

That you thought life wasn't worth living.

Maly Kiel smiled and you feel her tail curl around your waist in a reassuring hug. We go. Place nearby. Home.

Ask her what she is?
Ask about her home?
